2018 Natural History Museum Visit

On 21st March 2018, children arrived at school ready for their trip to The Natural History Museum. The coach, filled with the chatter of excited children, left at 7am and after a brief stop-off to collect Class 4 from Narborough we began our journey to London. Unfortunately heavy traffic in Central London meant the journey took longer than anticipated. Nevertheless, the children kept themselves occupied with 'Spot the Landmark'.

Our topic for this half term is 'Evolution and Inheritance' and the visit supported the children's work in the classroom. We began our tour by looking at fossilised marine creatures and footprints before moving on to participate in an Evolution Workshop run by the NHM. The children took part in activities which considered the evolution of a horse's foot and also how food available to certain birds brought about changes to the shape of their beaks over time.

After that, we moved on to the Dinosaur and Mammal Halls, stopping to look at exhibits on the way. The lifesize Blue Whale model and T-Rex produced several gasps of "Wow!" The children were fascinated by the displays and enjoyed the 'hands-on' activities.

Sadly, it was soon time to meet up and return to the coach for our journey home.
