Wednesday 24th February

Welcome to Wednesday

Spellings: Rule 24: able/ible and ably/iby suffixes

Use the powerpoint below to revise when to use the suffixes able/ible and ably/ibly.’ Use examples from the last slide to practice spelling the words accurately, choosing the correct suffix. Don’t do all of them at once- 10 a day is plenty.

Quick Write:

Using the 'Emotion 1st' powerpoint below, read through the slides to understand how these sentences work and how we can build on them to improve them. Then, complete the task on the third slide of writing your own emotion first sentences.

Maths:

  • At the top of the page, you should see 3 ‘choose’ tabs
  • 1st tab: Choose level 4 (year 4) or level 5 (year 5)

 White Rose Maths

Note: this week there are separate lessons for year 4 and year 5 children.

Year 4:  Adding Fractions

Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial about adding fractions

https://vimeo.com/507108462

Then, complete the worksheet below (Y4 Maths Wednesday). You could print it off and write on the worksheet, or write the answers on paper/exercise book, but remember to number your answers clearly so your parents can check you are correct.

Parents: I have also uploaded the answer sheet (Y4 MATHS ANSWERS) for you to refer to.

Year 5: Adding fractions within 1

You may need to cut strips on paper to make your own fraction strips, draw bar models, or use the images on screen.

Today you will be adding fractions with different denominators. You will need to use your knowledge of equivalent fractions to help you.

Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial to learn about how to add fractions with different denominators.

https://vimeo.com/503134338

Pause the video when instructed, and complete the questions. There is no worksheet for today, but I have added 3 additional questions for you to try independently.

English:

For English, please could you complete the following grammar quiz. This needs to be a completely independent quiz, so please do this on your own and without help from an adult. Don't worry if you struggle - just move on to the next question. The link says it is for Kingfisher class, but don't worry - Miss Maskell will receive your results!

Reading:

For today's reading lesson, instead of looking at the texts on Oxford Reading Owl, please could you click on the following link to see a reading competition that we will be entering as a federation. The competition closes Friday so please get your work in before then!

http://eastcliffcreatives.com/paper-beach/

For this task, you will need to think about 'Where does reading take you?' This is a fantastic opportunity to get creative - draw, write, film, anything! A great opportunity to become inventive away from devices.

What fantastic adventures have you been on because of your favourite book? What magical lands have you visited? Which characters have you travelled on a journey with?

There will be no spellings set today as I really want you to get stuck in to the reading project. Please send photos of this over - I can't wait to see what you come up with!
