Welcome to Friday!
Spellings: Rule 22: ‘cian’ or ‘ssion’ suffixes
It’s test day. Watch the spelling test video on dojo to complete the spelling test.
Quick Write: Questions
Use the picture in the powerpoint below for inspiration to write a series of questions (at least 4). Make sure your questions are punctuated correctly!
Maths:
Daily 10
Encourage pupils to practise their times tables by clicking on the link below. This will give 10 questions based around recall of the times tables facts.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
You could also try selecting division to practice using your knowledge of times tables to solve related division questions.
White Rose Maths
Note: this week there are separate lessons for year 4 and year 5 children.
Year 4: Equivalent fractions
Click on the link below to watch the video tutorial to learn how to use bar models and fraction walls to find equivalent fractions. (Equivalent fractions are fractions that have the same value..e.g. 1/3 = 2/6). Can you spot any patterns with the equivalent fractions you have found?
Then, complete the worksheet below (Y4 Maths Friday). You could print it off and write on the worksheet, or write the answers on paper/exercise book, but remember to number your answers clearly so your parents can check you are correct.
Parents: I have also uploaded the answer sheet (Y4 MATHS ANSWERS) for you to refer to.
Year 5: Improper fractions to mixed numbers
Click on the link below to learn about what improper fractions and mixed numbers are. Learn how to convert an improper fraction to a mixed number using bar models and division.
Then, complete the worksheet below (Y5 Maths Friday). You could print it off and write on the worksheet, or write the answers on paper/exercise book, but remember to number your answers clearly so your parents can check you are correct.
Parents: I have also uploaded the answer sheet (Y5 MATHS ANSWERS) for you to refer to.
English: Non-chronological report
Today you are going to be writing your own non-chronological report about your foodimal. Use the powerpoint below to explore what a good non-chronological report should look like, and the structure and language features you should include in your own writing (success criteria). A version with audio commentary is also available to help you identify some of the features required.
Then…have a go.
Make sure you include:
D&T/Art/: Design and make a 3D model of your foodimal.
This is your opportunity to get really creative. Go for a hunt around the house/home and see what stuff you have that you can use to make your model from (a good place to look is your recycling bin). Then think how you could use those materials to make a model of your foodimol. Create a quick design (a quick sketch will do) then get making. I can’t wait to see some of your models!
Home Learners: Design technology: Foodie Friday!!!
My favourite day of the week, with my favourite task of the week! Get creative in the kitchen! Knock up a snack, as sweet treat, a healthy meal...whatever you fancy. Can you try to make something that involves careful measuring of ingredients (e.g. weighing/ capacity of liquids). Can’t wait to see some of your fabulous creations. Channel your inner chef/ bake-off contestant… (Extra bonus points may be awarded if you clean up after you too!)
Have a fantastic weekend!!!
