Poet AF Harrold came to Castle Acre for the day on Wednesday 31st January to talk to the children about writing poetry and to read some of his own.
He held workshops for the whole school at various times throughout the day, giving excellent advice on writing poetry, from first draft, through editing to the finished product. Some classes composed group poems during the sessions, producing some interesting ideas. Many children said afterwards how they wanted to go away and have a go on their own.
Interspersed with the serious side of composing poems, Mr Harrold read a number of his own. All the children were enthralled (as were the adults) and listened attentively, although it was difficult not to with everyone in stitches at his renditions.
The day flew past and finished with a whole school assembly, which was also attended by a number of parents, friends and relatives, to listen to more of his poems and also some that the children had written after the workshops.
The queue at the end of the day to buy signed and dedicated copy of his poetry book, Things You Find in a Poet's Beard, stretched around the hall. If anyone missed out and would like a copy, please contact the school.
