It’s world book day!!!

Spellings: Rule 25: cious/tious suffixes.

Use the powerpoint to revise the rules for when to add the cious or tious suffixes. Then practice spelling some of the words on the final slide. Have you used the correct suffix?

Maths:

Daily 10

Encourage pupils to practise their times tables by clicking on the link below. This will give 10 questions based around recall of the times tables facts.

  • Click on the daily 10 image.
  • At the top of the page, you should see 3 ‘choose’ tabs
  • 1st tab: Choose level 4 (year 4) or level 5 (year 5)
  • 2nd tab: Multiplication, Choose mixed tables up to x12
  • Then you should see a range of question intervals at the bottom of the page…can you try a quicker challenge?
  • Upload your score to dojo to let your teacher know how you got on.

You could also try selecting division to practice using your knowledge of times tables to solve related division questions.

Then, complete the worksheet below (Y4 Maths Thursday). You could print it off and write on the worksheet, or write the answers on paper/exercise book, but remember to number your answers clearly so your parents can check you are correct.

Year 5: Subtract fractions

Then complete the worksheet (Year 5 Maths Thursday). You will need to use your knowledge of equivalent fractions when subtracting fractions with different denominators.

 

English: Planning your short story

Use the powerpoint below to find out today’s writing tasks. (There is an audio recording to help you).

You will need your map that you created yesterday, and your setting description.

Today you are going to be planning your story using a story mountain. Think carefully about your character, what problem they are going to encounter and how that problem is resolved. Remember, this needs to be exciting for the reader!

Art/DT

Design and make a front cover for your story.

Don’t forget to include the title, the author and an image that gives the reader a clue what your story might be about. Don’t forget to make it eye-catching!

 

Optional extras…

READ! It’s world book day! Choose a favourite story to read to a sibling/adult. Try to use expression and actions to make the story come to life. You could even experiment using different voices, make a performance, be as entertaining as you can!

Take part in the world book day competition. Write either a poem, a letter or a paragraph about hope. (See the document below for more details).

Be inspired! Write a poem in the style of Michael Rosen (Raisen)… anything goes!

Take a photo of you reading in an unusual place.
